Croeso, dyma Gweriniaeth Cymru.

This is the home of Gweriniaeth Cymru (Republic of Wales), a single-issue movement, a consortium of Welsh patriots, campaigning for an independent Welsh Republic. We believe that Cymru alone should have control and profit from its natural resources for the benefit of its citizens.

Our vision for Cymru is an independent Welsh Republic free from the influence of an undemocratic foreign monarchy and its colonial institutions.

We will continue to campaign for the compulsory colonial oath to be replaced with a choice; we want the alternative option to be an oath of allegiance to the constituents or Cymru rather than the Crown. Currently, the political system is biased against Republicans. In a modern democratic society, swearing allegiance to a foreign monarchy should not be compulsory.

In the future, once the movement is established, the aim is to register a single-issue Welsh Republican Party to give republicans a ballot option.

Has a single-issue political party ever been successful?

Absolutely — and more often than people assume. Single‑issue parties rarely become dominant national forces, but they can be remarkably successful at achieving their core goal, reshaping political agendas, or even winning seats.

What counts as “success” for a single‑issue party?

Success can mean several things:

  • Winning seats (local or national)

  • Forcing major parties to adopt their issue

  • Achieving legislative or policy change

  • Shifting public debate

Most single‑issue parties aim for influence rather than government, and on that metric, many have succeeded.

Remember, single‑issue parties can force major parties to shift their stance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Principles:

Equality: A belief that all citizens should have equal status without inherited privilege, rejecting the institution of monarchy.

Self-governance: Support for Welsh independence, enabling the country to govern itself free from Westminster.

Democratic values: Aiming to establish a republic with an elected head of state rather than a hereditary monarchy.

Preservation of culture and identity: Promoting Welsh language, heritage, and national pride as part of their vision for a sovereign Cymru.
